Quote Of The Week

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I have been reading non-stop. I am really wrapped up in the Malory Family Books by Johanna Lindsey. As soon as I finish one I'm diving right into the next. That being said I felt like the quote below by Jane Austen is extremely fitting for how I feel this week. I hope you agree to how true the statement is.

Wonderland Creek ~ Lynn Austin

Wonderland Creek

This was my first Lynn Austin book and I do recommend it. I loved the character of Alice. She is a librarian. And we all know that I love books. In one of the very first scenes of the book Alice reads a book during a funeral. I can so see myself doing that. I will admit that I have read during church, so pushing the boundaries to a funeral wouldn't be unimaginable (now don't go judging me; I work the night shift and I was nearly nodding off during the pastor's sermon; I had to find something to do to keep me awake).  I also enjoyed the historical look at the Pack Horse Librarian program that was created as a part of the Works Progress Administration under President Roosevelt's New Deal Initiative. It's amazing how we take simple things like a library for granted. I would love to see Lynn Austin write a follow up to this book.

My Favorite Disney Princess

Belle ~ From Beauty & The Beast

Now this is a random ramble. I love Beauty & The Beast. Belle is my absolute favorite Disney princess. Mainly because she is so normal. She also loves books and is very witty. So I'd like to share a few clips from the movie as to why Gaston could never have been Belle's man.

I played BINGO this past week with one of my dearest friends, my "sister". She cracked me up when the BINGO called said B9 and she leaned over to me and whispered "cancerous". When I saw the below post on a pinterest board it made me think of her even though it is not truly related to her comment.

Book Review ~ The Reluctant Bride by Donna Hatch

I downloaded The Reluctant Bride by Donna Hatch for free from BarnesAndNoble.com. It is an excellent romantic short story. I really enjoyed the characters. I wish this story had been developed into a much longer novel. I really think it had the strength to have made an excellent longer read. Regardless, I did enjoy it and I do recommend it.

Book Review ~ Pregnant Brides Series by Lynne Graham

~Desert Prince, Bride of Innocence
~Ruthless Magnate, Convenient Wife
~Greek Tycoon, Inexperienced Mistress

I tried out a series by an author new to me, Lynne Graham. As with most all Harlequin authors that I've tried, I was thoroughly impressed. I fell in love with my pregnant heroines and the billionaires that swept them off their feet. Of the three novels, from the Pregnant Brides Series, I especially felt that I connected with the character Elinor, from Desert Prince, Bride of Innocence. I enjoyed the whole series. And I recommend all three books for your reading pleasure.

Happy reading!

Disappointment

While surfing the internet I came across the below movie poster and I got very excited. A movie about Walt Disney. How interesting! I love Disney! What a marvelous idea. Why haven't they already made a movie based off of Walt's life? A film by Ron Howard. He makes good movies. Ryan Gosling as Walt. Well, he's a hottie and can definitively play a leading man. This looked to be a great movie in the making. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that it's not a movie in the making. It's a fake movie poster! Really? Now I'm just upset. Cruel joke for sure. What are your thoughts?

Book Review ~ The Wicked Baron by Sarah Mallory

Just finished The Wicked Baron by Sarah Mallory. It was a great read. I loved the mysterious subplot. Have to admit that the more I read the more I fell in love with the Baron. I don't regret the hours I spent immersed in this book. I would have to say I recommend it, but then I recommend all the Sarah Mallory books I have read. She seems to be a very talented author.

Amish Fiction

I love Amish fiction! There is just something so captivating about the simplicity and wholesomeness of the Amish people and their beliefs and culture. It makes me yearn for a simpler life. Okay, not that much simpler, I do enjoy electricity and technology, but a somewhat simpler life. For example, these books put a big emphasis on food, so I bought a bread machine to make homemade bread. I know that's cheating, but it still gave me the desired effect of fresh homemade bread that I technically made. So yummy when it's hot with butter on it. I even briefly entertained the idea of purchasing some chickens for fresh eggs, but decided that might be a bit more work than I truly have time for. After all, I do have to work to pay my bills and my one acre lot surely isn't big enough to be converted to a farm; though, I did plant a small garden and some fruit trees. Anyway, back to my fascination with the Amish. Aside from food, I enjoy reading about the courting rituals and community closeness, the minuscule things that I take for granted daily, and the obscure outlook of the Amish on those of us who are "fancy".
And I have to admit that I became enchanted by these people by pure accident. I just happened to pick up a cheap novel from the bargain bin at my local book store. The cover caught my eye and since it was a deal I added it to my purchases. I read it and realized it was book one of a trilogy. I was so ensnared that I had to have book two. I went back to my usual book store and they didn't have it. I checked the other book stores in town. No one had it. I did find book three so I went ahead and bought it. I decided to order book two online and then changed my mind. I couldn't wait days for this book to be delivered, so I ended up scouring the local libraries and finally found book two. And so, this is how my interest in Amish fiction began. Oh, in case you were wondering what book one was, it was The Shunning, Heritage of Lancaster County Series #1 by Beverly Lewis. Apparently, I'm not the only person who was obsessed with the novel, because the Hallmark channel recently made a movie based off of the book.
The Shunning (Heritage of Lancaster County Series #1)
So, I encourage you. If you have never sampled Amish fiction give it a try. A couple of authors I recommend are Beverly Lewis (who is the Queen of Amish fiction in my opinion), Wanda Brunstetter, and Marta Perry.

Veel leesplezier!
